We’re less than 3 weeks away from Spring! Yikes!
What can you do now to prepare for your Summer and remaining year health?
Has the pandemic (or anything else) impacted any good intentions you may have had at the start of the year to focus on your health? I must admit I’ve gotten a little sidetracked and have taken on several “dragons” that have impacted my ability to focus and maintain the motivation I’ve kept in years past. Ugh!
BUT the good news is that it’s not too late for a “re-launch”! There’s no better opportunity than now to begin to “think Spring” and begin new habits. We’ve been cooped up for what feels like a long, long season and just the thought of outdoor activity in the warm sun can be purely motivating.
On the other hand, experiencing the addition of what has been termed the “quarantine 15” may be adding to the stress we’ve already acquired based upon the past extraordinary year. The quarantines, lockdowns, holidays, etc. may have lent to an addition of carry-out meals, comfort foods and baking coupled with a lack of outdoor activity and movement. Really – not a recipe to serve our health in the best way.
Who out there can relate??? How about joining me in a “Think Spring” jumpstart to improve our health and feel good in our summer clothes?
Here are 3 effective ideas to begin. Each week I will be adding a few more cooking/shopping/lifestyle tips, tricks, and recipes that can help motivate and propel you toward a happy and delicious warm weather season.
- Fast, easy, and simple clean foods cooking is key.
Make it yourself! It’s the only way to control the ingredients in your meals, snacks & desserts. Need help? Here are some popular books that provide ideas, recipes, and programs to help. Remember, swim suit, shorts and tank top weather is just around the corner. Just click on each book to learn more!
- The 30 Day Ketogenic Cleanse – Maria Emmerich
- The Perricone Weight-Loss Diet – Nicholas Perricone, MD
- Dr. Kellyann’s Bone Broth Diet- Kellyann Petrucci, MS, ND
- Wheat Belly- William Davis, MD
- Gut and Psychology Syndrome- Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, MMedSci
- The Plant Paradox- Steve R Gundry, MD
There are certainly more books on dietary/cooking wellness out there. These are just a few of the books that I’ve known first-hand to have an effective impact on weight loss and health.
I’m currently following Maria Emmerich’s “The 30 Day Ketogenic Cleanse”. I did this cleanse several years back and lost 20 pounds. I don’t think I’ve gained much of it back (if any at all) but it’s a great program for getting back into shape, preserving muscle and moving your body toward consistent fat burning. The Keto lifestyle can also amp up your energy and sleep levels. All great benefits to increase a healthy lifestyle.
No matter which plan you may consider, the foundation is pretty similar. Cutting out sugar, processed foods and synthetic additives all undoubtedly result in improved health and weigh loss.
2. The addition of foods high in collagen
Collagen is a protein responsible for healthy joints and skin elasticity. It comprises 1/3 of the protein in our body and breaks down as we age. While there are many collagen skin creams on the market, experts tell us that collagen is most effective and anti-aging from the inside out. Here’s a list of foods high in collagen that you may want to incorporate into your daily cooking/dietary lifestyle.
- Organic Avocado
- Organic Blueberries
- Bone Broth
- Wild Alaska Salmon
- Organic Dark Leafy Greens
- Grass Fed Gelatin
- Wild Alaskan Cod
- Organic Eggs
Food enjoyment is important as you want to embark on a lifestyle that you can maintain. This holds true for physical activity. This is why I follow a ketogenic lifestyle and opt for certain workout activities (we’ll talk more about the later). Bottom line … we all need to move (so we don’t rust!) so it’s best to engage in those activities that you gravitate to.
3. Subscribe to a CSA program.
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is often the most affordable way to take advantage of delicious, locally grown organic food throughout the growing season and beyond. Subscribing to a CSA is also a fabulous way to support your community.
This is a perfect time to subscribe to a program near you. Here are several links that will help to identify local organic farms in your area that offer these excellent programs.
You can also do a search for CSA programs by state.
So won’t you join me now and “think Spring” by introducing some new and healthy habits into your daily life? Stay tuned for continuing tips, recipes and ideas designed to help jumpstart your 2021 summer season!
